Cape Town city council approval of power line
CAPE CORAL: Cape Coral City Council on Monday voted four-to-three to install high-voltage above-ground power lines through the city’s business district.
The lines will run on the south side of Southeast 46th Lane from Del Prado Boulevard to Southeast Ninth Street.
Lee County Electric Cooperative officials say they are relieved because the current system is antiquated.
If the council didn’t make a decision, the LCEC was set to file a lawsuit on Tuesday.
Some city council members, however, aren’t in favor of installing the power lines, saying more time was needed, especially to gather information about an underground power line option put forth by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
The CRA made a push to install the lines underground, but it would have cost millions of dollars.
The LCEC plans to start filing for permits on Tuesday.
LCEC officials say the project will take at least 16 months to complete.
