ASHEVILLE — State officials say they are changing an alternative being considered for the Interstate 26 Connector at the request of city officials and residents, and will look at other suggested changes.

ATLANTA — Pipe product maker Anvil International LP said Friday it plans to sell some assets of its electrical fittings business, Picoma, to steel pipe producer John Maneely Co.
Under an agreement between the two companies, John Maneely will transfer some assets of Seminole Tubular Products, its plumbing fittings business.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Anvil is a unit of Atlanta-based Mueller Water Products Inc., which makes infrastructure and flow control products. John Maneely Co. is a subsidiary of the Carlyle Group, a private equity fund.

Printed circuit board (PCB) production will decline 20% to $40.5 billion in 2009 because of weaker demand for electronics equipment caused by the global economic downturn, according to a study by trade association IPC.
The world market for PCBs had reached $50.8 billion in 2008, up 1% over 2007. Growth in global board production will resume in 2010 when the market grows to $43.5 billion worldwide.
The value of North American board production is expected to end 2009 at about $3.49 billion, about 15% below 2008, when production totaled $4.1 billion. However, …

As Metro tries to achieve regional consensus on how the Portland area should grow, Clackamas and Washington County officials are fighting over a long-studied transportation project.
At issue is the Interstate 5-to-Highway 99W Connector Project. In February a steering committee of state, county and local officials recommended a series of road projects to improve east-west traffic access between Wilsonville, Tualatin and Sherwood. But on Oct. 8, the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners told a Metro advisory committee that it opposed the project.

DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is expanding its previous recall of vehicles over a cruise-control-switch defect by 4.5 million vehicles. Including previous recalls for the problem, Ford has now recalled more than 14 million vehicles, making this the company’s biggest recall ever. The switch poses a fire hazard, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The affected vehicles are pickup trucks, minivans and commercial vehicles built between 1992 and 2003.
